Nationwide's Bactiguard Bacticell Air Filter Cartridge has won the 2012 H&V News Award for 'AIR CONDITIONING PRODUCT OF THE YEAR' and was a finalist in two other categories: Air Movement Product of the Year, and Energy Efficient Commercial HVAC Product.
Nationwide provide a range of training seminars for on-site engineers ranging from health & safety issues when changing to air filters, to updates on changes in filter testing and standards.
Reducing Energy Consumption
Air filters are a drain on energy use. To find how you can reduce energy consumption contact Nationwide.
This section of the website is designed to keep visitors informed about relevant research to indoor air quality, including publicly available material and research conducted specifically by Nationwide.
An energy rating system for air filters is due to be introduced during the course of 2010/11, following on from work undertaken during the development of the Eurovent Certification Scheme.
Nationwide has been running research in this area for many years, commencing with the development of the Bactiguard Bacti-cell Air Filter Cartridge where initial testing had shown it to reduce fan energy consumption by up to 30%. Work continues in this area, with a number of projects running in different buildings.
Designing products which reduce their environmental impact during manufacture, use and disposal has driven much of the developmental work undertaken by Nationwide. Two recent examples are described below:
The Bacti-cell Air Filter Cartridge is a unique contribution to reducing to waste. After initial purchase the housing is re-used and only the cells replaced. Smaller and lighter in size, they are cheaper to transport, easier to fit, and waste arising from used cells is lower in volume than the disposal of a bag or rigid cartridge. Combined with the fact that it has a proven life span three times longer than a conventional bag filters and lower energy consumption, provides further economic benefits to purchasers.
The ECO Pure-Pleat Panel Filter dispenses with the requirement for a wire backing mesh to hold the pleats in place because it is constructed using a self-supporting media. As a result the cost and environmental impact using wire is removed, and wasteful disposal avoided because the Pure-Pleat is a totally incinerable product.
Despite being a useful standard to rate buildings according to the quality of their indoor air, few building owners seem to have embraced it despite the commercial value it could add if the highest quality indoor air could be achieved. Nationwide had prepared a useful guide on how to implement the standard.
During the 1990s research established that both filters and ductwork were capable of supporting microbial growth which could pose a risk to the engineers undertaking filter changes, as well as to building occupants resulting in Sick Building Syndrome. The development of Bactiguard Air Filters provided a breakthrough in reducing this risk.
